3 tips for decorating your roof this holiday season:

1. Never hang lights from your shingles

Avoid cracking and holes in your shingles by hanging decorative lights with temporary fasteners from your gutters. Using staples, nails, or screws, you can damage your shingles and let excess moisture in. Using a temporary option like plastic clips will not damage your shingles and can be removed and reused yearly.

2. Have your lights and wires untangled before hanging them

Have your lights ready before you climb your ladder. Tangled wires and lights can damage your roof while they are stuck in cracks and crevices. Plus, you do not want the tangled wires exposed to the outside elements.

3. Careful take down decorations at the end of the season

Ripping down the lights and decorations from your roof may be a quick and easy way to take down decorations, but it can rip shingles off your roof. Carefully remove your decorations so the lights do not get snagged between shingles. It may take more time, but it will save you a headache down the road.
